Apple Pay quietly expanded the wallet from 5 to 8 cards on "older devices" - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204506
I tried it and added 6 cards, when I know that in early August I could only have 5 cards. On iPhone 8 and later devices Apple says you can how have 12 cards on a device.
This is important and quite to some users, especially business owners, who use different cards for different contexts.
